The Body Imaging Fellowship provides exposure to high volume of inpatient, outpatient and emergency US, CT and MRI exams. The wide spectrum of state-of-the-art imaging includes CT and MRI for cancer staging and monitoring, Dual energy CT for various applications, pre and post-transplant imaging(liver, renal and pancreas), general abdominal US, OB-GYN US, vascular Doppler, Thyroid/neck lymph-node US, and scrotal/penile US. MR imaging are performed on 1.5 T and 3T scanners. MRI exams include liver including elastography, pancreas, MRCP including secretin studies, renal, adrenal, prostate, rectal cancer, enterography, central/peripheral lymphangiography, MRA, appendix, whole body MRI, female pelvic imaging including oncologic staging, infertility workup, dynamic study for pelvic floor dysfunction, and placental anomaly. We also work with our Nuclear medicine colleagues in interpreting PET-MRI scans done on a state-of-the-art magnet at CU-RIC. Our institution is unique in the region and among few in the nation at being able to perform PSMA PET-MRI scans. GI-GU fluoroscopy and intervention procedures (aspiration, biopsy, drainage etc) are included as an optional part of fellowship training depending on fellow preference.​

The fellowship is designed to provide exposure to high volumes of complex cases in a graduated fashion, with capacity to tailor the tail end rotations based on the needs of the individual fellow. From day one, the fellows are encouraged to prioritize reading the higher-level cases which enhance their knowledge, with our goal being to produce capable subspecialty academic and private practice radiologists who hit the ground running on day one of their clinical practice. In our clinical workflow, there is never a challenge in getting access to the most interesting and difficult cases, with the faculty independently reading cases alongside fellows.​

Participation in multidisciplinary conferences is an integral part of the fellowship training. As Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå’s only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, we offer the most advanced cancer care in the Rocky Mountain Region. Our catchment area includes states neighboring Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå, with patients often travelling far to reach our subspecialty clinicians. As such, the cases are unique, offer high educational value, and a great opportunity to provide high level personalized care to a large population. Body Imaging faculty form an integral part of these conferences with a strong culture of interdepartmental collaboration in complex cancer care. Fellows are assigned a reading list of seminal and clinically relevant articles in our field, to be covered over the course of the year in parallel with their assigned monthly MDC focus.​

Fellows participate in resident and medical student education including both formal lectures and workstation teaching. We have twice weekly divisional case conferences where fellows and faculty present interesting cases. Fellows are expected to give one formal resident noon conference lecture.

Research and Academic Time

There are opportunities to participate in scholarship projects where fellows work with a faculty mentor on a research project with the goal of presenting at a national meeting and publication. Dedicated research time can be allotted if such a project with clear goals can be identified. Fellows are allotted additional weekly academic time based on clinical needs of the section.​

Faculty

Our renowned faculty have expertise in all aspects of body imaging, with areas of focused interest within the subspecialty. They are members of various committees in national and international societies including ISMRM, SAR, SABI, and frequently give invited lectures at these meetings.

Our one-year fellowship program is non-ACGME and does not participate in the National Resident Matching Program. We follow the SCARD timeline for fellowship interviews. Each fellow must have a Â鶹´«Ã½¸ßÇå State Medical License prior to beginning the fellowship.

The Mile-High City provides a unique and incredible experience to live in one of the most vibrant cities in the country, at the foot of the Rocky Mountain Front Range.  Staff and trainees live throughout the Denver metropolitan area and spend their spare time in the numerous outdoor venues, restaurants, and expansive open spaces.  We boast temperate summers with mildly snowy but sunny winters.  Truly paradise!

Denver is located approximately 90 minutes from some of the country’s best ski areas, providing a location for both summer and winter fun.  Denver International Airport is located approximately 20 minutes east of the Anschutz Medical Campus and is the fifth-busiest airport in the US, allowing for easy travel to nearly anywhere in the country, as well as internationally.
