The fellowship鈥檚 primary focus is on the development of skills necessary to be a leader in hospital medicine, in one of three tracks: 1) Quality Improvement, Patient Safety, and Clinical Systems Redesign 2) Global Health 3) Translational or Outcomes Research in Hospital Medicine Each fellowship track is associated with an intensive didactic or classroom-based course, clinical duties, and experiential work, as described below. With each track, our fellows will have the opportunity to complete master鈥檚 level classes through the Graduate School and the 麻豆传媒高清 School of Public Health with up to 9 credit hours of tuition per year (examples would be completing coursework for the master鈥檚 in public health, education, or business administration).
The University of 麻豆传媒高清 Division of Hospital Medicine鈥檚 Advanced Practice Fellowship (APF) is a 13-month post-graduate fellowship program dedicated to enhancing the development of both early-career Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (ACNPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs) or for those new to hospital-based medicine. Ideal candidates include ACNPs and PAs interested in working in a hospital-based environment, both in hospital medicine and specialty practices, and are looking for an intensive training experience. Since it鈥檚 a rigorous and lengthy fellowship, the best candidates are those who truly want to spend an additional 13 months in training as a learner. The program uses a multiphase approach to develop learners into well-rounded, competent inpatient providers. The DHM has built core clinical teams around fellows in order to provide opportunities for high-yield, bedside clinical instruction from talented Physicians and APP faculty. Though it has a strong clinical core, the APF also utilizes frequent didactic sessions and case-based learning to enhance learner development. Fundamentals of education will include a comprehensive bootcamp orientation, weekly didactic education sessions, clinical skills sessions (reading ECGs, interpreting chest radiographs, acid-base problems, etc) and a range of rotational experiences, including general inpatient medicine, swing/nights, emergency medicine, medical oncology, and consult medicine.
