Eligible residents and fellows have group term life insurance. No proof of good health is required. You must however, complete the Life Insurance Beneficiary Designation Form and list your beneficiary(ies). This policy is for the resident or fellow only and is not available for other family members. The policy has no cash value.

Beneficiaries

The carrier will make payment to the most recently named beneficiary if you die while insured under this coverage. The beneficiary is the person you named on the Life Insurance Beneficiary Designation Form (opens pdf). Definitions and instructions regarding beneficiaries are on the Life Insurance Beneficiary Designation form.

To Change Beneficiaries:

Complete and print the Life Insurance Beneficiary Designation Form​â¶Ä‹. After you complete the form, return it to Joe LaFond, GME Benefits Coordinator, using one of these methods:

Accelerated Benefits

The Accelerated Benefit allows you to receive an early payout of a portion of your group life insurance benefit if you are diagnosed with a terminal illness and meet eligibility requirements.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance (AD&D)

In addition to basic life insurance coverage, this policy provides you with $50,000 in Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage. Accidental death benefits are payable to your named beneficiary if you die from an accidental bodily injury while insured under this coverage. Accidental dismemberment benefits may be payable if you suffer a covered dismemberment. The AD&D coverage may also help protect against certain financial losses resulting from a variety of accidents. ​

Exiting Residents may have options for conversion or portability of your current group life insurance within 31 days of exit through Standard Insurance Company.

Group Coverage Highlights

• Resident pays no premium for this coverage while in training.
• Plan is offered by the Standard Insurance Company, AM Best A rated company.
• Monthly disability benefits payable beginning the 91st day of disability.
• Benefit period to age 65.
• Monthly benefit levels:
             PGY I & II $3,000
             PGY III & IV $3,500
             PGY V & above $4,000
• Group-to-individual conversion policy offered to residents completing their CU GME training program.

Vacation

• Residents are granted a total of 4 weeks of paid vacation per post graduate year of training. Vacation includes leaves for education purposes. One week consists of 7 calendar days.

 

Leave of Absence

• Family Medical Leave (FMLA). Residents are eligible for up to 12 weeks of FMLA during a 12-month period for their own health condition or to care for a family member’s serious health condition.

Seek Medical Treatment

• Residents who experience a work-related injury, needle-stick or body fluid exposure (BFE) should seek immediate medical attention.
  • If it is an emergency, go to the Emergency Room of the hospital where the work-related injury occurs.

Who to Contact about Work-Related Injuries & Exposures

• Report work-related injuries to , and follow their protocol.
• Direct any workers’ compensation questions to University Risk Management (303) 860-5682 or (888) 812-9601 or riskmgmt@cu.edu.
• University Risk Management, not your health insurance, is responsible for payment of services related to a compensable, work-related injury, needle-stick, or body fluid exposure.

 

Claims & Bills

• You must file an online Employee Injury Report Form or Needlestick or Body Fluid Exposure Report Form within 10 days of the injury or exposure.
  • Go to the  to complete and submit the claim form. 
• Failure to file this form timely may result in penalties to you, including financial responsibility for treatment.
• Workers' Compensation coverage pays for reasonable and necessary medical expenses from designated providers with no co-pays or deductibles for compensable claims.
  • It also may​ preserve the resident's rights in the event the injury requires recovery time off work, future treatment, etc.

Immunizations, TB Screenings & Mask Fits

Immunization/TB test records are not maintained within GME and are not accessible at or through the GME Office. You may email PROHealth, the designated provider for CU GME’s immunization program, at PROHealth@dhha.org to request a copy of your immunization documentation. Phone requests are not permissible. Your email will serve as your consent for release of records. Records will be provided only to you (no third parties) via email. You should keep a copy of these records and can then provide directly to requesting entities.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS: You will initially be fitted for masks that meet Denver Health requirements. You may need to be fitted for other styles of masks at other facilities as you rotate.

CU Human Resources is launching a new family care subscription program for CU Anschutz Medical Campus faculty, staff, and residents/fellows. Through a partnership with Care@Work by Care.com, CU Human Resources is providing premium Care.com subscription memberships to all CU Anschutz Medical Campus employees (including residents/fellows). 

Membership to the Care.com search services will include:

Care.com Membership: Premium, unlimited access to Care.com to post a job or search for caregivers including childcare providers, tutors, virtual care and learning support, pod teachers, nannies, nanny shares, senior caregivers, pet walkers and sitters, house cleaners and more.  

Tuition Discounts: Discounts on full-time or part-time tuition available at participating childcare centers.

Backup Care for Children & Adults: Access to in-home or in-center vetted and subsidized care when regular, planned care is not available due to COVID-19-related circumstances. (Examples include daycare or school closures due to COVID-19, before -or after-school care closures due to COVID-19, adult care facility closures due to COVID-19, and related reasons.)

• Eligible employees may use up to 10 care days per year of backup care for either child or adult care.
• Backup care co-pays will be as follows:
  • $6/hour for in-home childcare or adult care
  • $20/day for in-center childcare

Importantly, residents/fellows will go through the  in order to check eligibility and enroll in CU Anschutz subscription and backup care benefits.  Going directly to the public Care.com website will not take you to the required enrollment questions and process.
