COMMUNITY-BASED TEACHING PROGRAMS

Appointment and Promotion Process for Clinical Faculty:

Potential clinical faculty must submit a current curriculum vitae, a copy of their �鶹��ý�� medical license, copy of their DEA license, ABIM (if applicable), and a completed application and teaching hours document (provided by the Department of Medicine). The Department of Medicine, School of Medicine, and the Regents review appointments and promotions. The process can take several months. are reviewed on an annual basis.

Faculty/CME Opportunities

Teaching Opportunities and Benefits

Course Description: This curriculum (formerly, the Primary Care Course) is a three-year longitudinal preceptorship, which introduces students to the concepts of primary care and to the use of the focused history and physical exam in the outpatient setting.
Time Commitment: One afternoon weekly
Time of Year: For first and second year medical students: September through May; for third-year medical students- September through June
Preceptors Needed: Primary care internists (and other primary care physicians) in the Denver metropolitan area

Course Description: This required third year clerkship is a combined eight week block and focuses on primary care, chronic disease management and preventive medicine.
Time Commitment: Four weeks each
Time of Year: Year round
Level of Trainee: Third year medical students
Preceptors Needed: Rural and urban primary care internists
Additional Information: Preceptors may share students with their physician partners

Course Description: This elective gives fourth year students an opportunity to learn about the combined specialty of medicine and pediatrics.
Time Commitment: Two to four weeks
Time of Year: year round
Level of Trainee: Fourth year medical students
Preceptors Needed: Med/Peds trained physicians in the Denver metro area and statewide
Additional Information: Most students taking this elective are exploring the career option of med/peds.

Course Description: This elective gives students the opportunity to participate in the care of ambulatory patients in a primary care internal medicine practice.
Time Commitment: Full time for two to four weeks
Time of Year: year round
Level of Trainee: Fourth year medical students
Preceptors Needed: Primary care internists in the Denver metropolitan area and statewide
Additional Information: Preceptors may share students with their physician partners. Most students who take this elective have either already decided on a career in internal medicine or are strongly considering such a career.

Course Description: This rotation gives internal medicine residents an opportunity to improve ambulatory internal medicine practice skills and to understand the practice of internal medicine in a community practice setting.
Time Commitment: One calendar month
Time of Year: Year round
Level of Trainee: Second or third year residents
Preceptors Needed: Primary care internists in the Denver metropolitan area and rural �鶹��ý��
Additional Information: Preceptors may share residents with their physician partners
