ASCENT: Advancement of Scholars in Cancer 麻豆传媒高清 aNd Training


Mission

The mission of the University of 麻豆传媒高清 Anschutz Medical Campus Advancement of Scholars in Cancer Education aNTraining Program is to offer a multi-dimensional mentoring and cancer research training experience to inspire and prepare post-baccalaureate students who have experienced a lack of access in education and training activities to enroll and succeed in a top-tier PhD or MD-PhD program and commit to cancer research careers.

To achieve this mission, ASCENT program students will:

  • Conduct two years of cancer-focused research with mentor support to strengthen their research and technical skills.
  • Improve their competitiveness for cancer-focused PhD program admission through guidance and training on the graduate school application process.
  • Participate in high-quality professional and career development activities individually designed to complement each ASCENT scholar’s needs and goals.
  • Engage in continuous and dynamic mentoring and community-building research-centered experiences designed to enhance the scholar’s network and integration in social, research, and academic environments. 

An important aim of the University of 麻豆传媒高清 Cancer Center is to expand the cancer research workforce by increasing the number of trainees who have experienced a lack of access in education and training activities in cancer research. One important goal of ASCENT is to address the challenges that impact scholars who have experienced a lack of access in education and training activities and to support them in their pursuit of earning a PhD in a cancer-focused research program. 

ASCENT is supported by an and administered by the Cancer Research Training and 麻豆传媒高清 Coordination (CRTEC) at the CU Cancer Center. The program also receives support from the CU Anschutz Medical Campus Cancer Center and the Divisions of Hematology and Medical Oncology of the Department of Medicine.

Application Dates

  • November 1, 2024 – March 2, 2025: Program application open
  • March 2, 2025: Final application deadline (11:59 pm MT)
  • The application review will take place 1-2 weeks after the deadline.

    Eduardo Davila, PhD, is a Professor and the Amy Davis Endowed Chair of Basic Immunology in the Department of Medicine and serves as the Associate Director of the Office of Cancer Research Training and 麻豆传媒高清 at the CU Cancer Center. Davila’s research focuses on developing cancer immunotherapies. This research integrates a broad array of disciplines from protein biochemistry and cell biology to preclinical and clinical studies.
