Acting Internship

For CU Students (SURG 8012) and Visiting Students

The Urology Acting Internship course is designed to give medical students interested in Urology an immersive educational experience and prepare them for residency. Our Acting Internship is a modified preceptorship divided into two two-week blocks. Acting interns spend four weeks in two affiliated hospitals to achieve an in-depth educational and diverse clinical experience.

Visiting Student Acting Interns

Applications accepted on  starting March 1, 2025.

The available rotations are as follows, with a maximum of four students per rotation:

  • May 26, 2025 - June 20, 2025
  • June 23 – July 18, 2025 (FULL)
  • July 21 – August 15, 2025 (FULL)
  • August 18 – September 12, 2025 (FULL)

Urology Scholarship Program

Description of Scholarship

The University of 麻豆传媒高清 Division of Urology offers a scholarship to support fourth-year medical students participating in the University of 麻豆传媒高清’s Visiting Urology Acting Internship (SURG 8012). This scholarship helps offset travel and housing costs for eligible students, providing up to $1,500 in financial assistance.

The scholarship is open to all applicants, with a focus on those who have had personal experience overcoming hardship or have an interest in working with or advocating for patients who have traditionally experienced barriers to accessing health care.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school (MD or DO).

Who Should Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be a fourth-year medical student
  • Have an interest in applying to a Urology Residency Program in 2025
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Meet all standard VSLO application requirements for the SURG 8012 elective
  • Be able to rotate at the University of 麻豆传媒高清 between May and August 2025


Competitive applicants will demonstrate:

  • Strong academic performance – Demonstrated through transcripts and USMLE scores.
  • Leadership experience – Reflected in CV activities.
  • A commitment to pursuing a career in urology.

Application Process

  1. Submit a VSLO Application Complete the VSLO application for the University of 麻豆传媒高清 Visiting Urology Acting Internship (SURG 8012). Refer to the course catalog for details on visiting student requirements.
  2. Complete the Scholarship Application In addition to the VSLO application, submit the separate scholarship application (available below and on the VSLO website).
  3. Provide a Personal Essay Submit a brief essay (500 words or less) discussing:
    • Experiences in your life or training that have shaped your perspective on how physician representation in urology can enhance patient care.
    • Your interest in the University of 麻豆传媒高清’s Urology Residency Program.
  4. Submit a Letter of Recommendation Include a letter from an individual who can support your application for the scholarship.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Do you accept international medical students for the Acting Internship?
    At this time, we do not have any opportunities available for international students.

  2. Can I change the rotation dates if they don’t match my school’s calendar?
    No. All rotation dates are fixed and cannot be changed, even if they do not align with your home institution’s academic calendar.

  3. My school requires that I set up a rotation with a faculty member. Can I set up my own rotation?
    No. The only rotations we offer for visiting students are through our SURG 8012 Acting Internship course. Our faculty will not be able to accommodate an additional rotation outside of this.

  4. Are there any fees for the Acting Internship course?
    A nonrefundable application fee of $150 is required upon acceptance of the rotation offer.

  5. I attend a non-LCME accredited school, are there any additional fees?
    Yes. Students from non-LCME accredited schools, including DO students, are required to pay a total fee of $4,150 ($4,000 tuition + $150 application fee) upon acceptance of the rotation offer. The fee can’t be waived.

  6. Are there shadowing or observership opportunities available?
    Yes, but not during Acting Internship rotation dates. These opportunities are available only at UCHealth, are unpaid, and provide no financial support or academic credit. Participants must secure their own sponsor and will not engage with patients or advise on cases, in line with federal regulations. These opportunities are available to individuals 18 or older, and no hands-on experience is provided.

    Shadowing is a short-term experience (up to 12 hours annually), in which you observe healthcare professionals in their daily duties. Applications must be submitted at least one week in advance.

    Observership allows up to 30 days of observation and is designed for individuals looking to learn about healthcare processes. Applications must be submitted at least one month in advance.
